Meet the Supplier: Get to know MYC Group
In this month’s Meet the Supplier, we spoke to Boaz Torfstein, Head of Public Project & Partnerships at MYC Group, a key supplier on Lots 2, 3, and 4 of the Worcestershire and West Midlands Development framework, developed in partnership with Contracting Authority Community Housing.
Beyond its industry expertise, MYC Group is making strides in sustainability with a digitally enabled materials recycling centre and investing in future talent through a year-round internship programme in Northampton.
It also takes an innovative approach to workplace culture with a dedicated ‘toy’ budget that encourages employees to explore the latest technology and drive creativity and innovation!
What is your company’s mission statement/aims/objectives?
At MYC Group, our mission is to deliver high-quality, sustainable, and innovative construction solutions that enhance the lives of our clients and communities. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through advanced modular construction techniques, ensuring safety and excellence in every project. By fostering strong relationships and prioritising social value, we strive to be the trusted partner in building a better, more sustainable future for all.
Can you give us a brief history of your company?
The business started out in 2005, founded by civil engineer Yoav Tal, in the high-end residential sector and is now a major player in the Super Prime sector. Eight years ago, the business took the decision to diversify into the hospitality and multi-unit residential sectors. It has now delivered over 2,000 keys of hotel rooms, plus dozens of new-build residential schemes.
In 2020, the business decided to diversify further and began work on MYC’s own Off-Site Construction and Fabrication Facility – MY-Fab. MY-Fab allows us to exploit, where and when appropriate, the many advantages of modular construction; reduction in environmental impact, increased timeline and cost predictability, a highly superior product and a substantial reduction in site interruption (both in duration and intensity).
What are the benefits of being a supplier on this framework?
Being a supplier provides several advantages, including direct access to a vetted network of clients in the housing and public sectors, creating more opportunities for work without the need for lengthy tendering processes. Suppliers benefit from streamlined procurement, reducing administrative burdens and associated costs. The framework also supports compliance with regulations such as the Building Safety Act, ensuring high standards in service delivery. Suppliers also receive dedicated account management and early engagement with clients, allowing for tailored solutions that meet specific project needs.
What specific products or services does your company deliver through the framework (s)?
New– build construction schemes delivered traditionally and using our in-house modular factory.
What sets your business apart from its competitors?
MYC Group delivers around 70% of our projects using our in-house full-time staff. Our team covers all the elements of the construction project’s critical path, from design to post-completion maintenance. We have our own offsite solutions centre which manufactures all components of our modular system in-house, allowing fuller control over projects’ programme, cost, and quality. Our facility can manufacture both full volumetric, structural high-quality modules, as well as steel fabrications, aluminium windows and doors systems, and full joinery.
How does your company contribute positively to the communities it operates in?
MYC Group has been operating a year-round internship programme in our facility in Northampton. Working together with Northampton College we see circa 600 students come in for a weeklong work experience, learning hands on the trades of MMC. We are now starting to employ the first college graduates that have been through our programme, fostering a long-standing connection to the local community in and around Northampton.
You can learn more about the groups work with Northampton College, and its benefits for both students and business, in the video below:
What will be the key areas of focus for your business over the next 12 months?
We are currently focusing on expanding our offering with newly designed solutions for schools and educational buildings, and for cost effective, high-quality temporary accommodations.
What are the biggest challenges currently facing the housing sector?
The housing sector is facing significant challenges, including rising material and labour costs, planning delays, and increased regulatory requirements, particularly around building safety and sustainability. As a modular-enabled main contractor, MYC Group sees the slow adoption of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) as a barrier to delivering high-quality, affordable homes at scale. Supply chain constraints and economic uncertainty are also impacting project viability, while policy and funding inconsistencies are creating uncertainty around long-term investments. Addressing these challenges requires a shift towards streamlined procurement, greater collaboration, and a stronger commitment to MMC to improve efficiency, cost certainty, and environmental performance.
What are the biggest challenges currently facing your company and your supply chain partners?
As a modular-enabled main contractor, MYC Group faces challenges related to supply chain stability, material cost volatility, and navigating evolving regulatory requirements. Ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality components for our modular systems is critical, but global supply chain disruptions and inflation continue to impact lead times and pricing. Our supply chain partners also face pressures from rising operational costs, skilled labour shortages, and the need to meet increasingly stringent sustainability and compliance standards. Adapting to changing procurement frameworks and planning regulations adds another layer of complexity. To mitigate these challenges, we have set up a department dedicated to focusing exclusively on strengthening supplier relationships, leveraging offsite manufacturing efficiencies, and driving early collaboration with our 200+ approved suppliers to maintain project certainty and quality.
Are there any recent innovations or developments in your business that excite you?
We have recently rolled out our group-wide recycling centre!
As part of our effort to reduce our environmental footprint, MYC Group has established a digitally enabled materials recycling centre, and several months into the programme, we can already see the benefits in cost-savings and waste reduction.
Our QA system is also continuously improving, bringing in the latest in both digital and physical technologies to push product quality to the maximum. One example of our continuously improving QA system is the integration of digital tracking and AI-driven quality control within our modular manufacturing process. Each module undergoes a real-time digital inspection at key production stages, using sensor-based monitoring and automated defect detection to ensure precision in structural alignment, MEP installations, and finishing details. This is complemented by RFID and QR code tracking, allowing for full traceability of components from factory to site.
If you were Housing Minister for the day, what would you change?
If we were Housing Minister for the day, we would prioritise streamlining the planning system to accelerate housing delivery, particularly for MMC and modular construction projects. We would push for clearer, faster approvals for offsite construction, ensuring modular solutions are fully recognised within building regulations and procurement frameworks. Funding incentives would be introduced to support low-carbon, high-performance homes, encouraging greater adoption of sustainable construction methods. Additionally, we would strengthen supply chain resilience by investing in UK-based manufacturing and skills training for MMC, reducing reliance on imports and mitigating labour shortages. Finally, we would drive long-term policy stability, ensuring consistency in housing and sustainability regulations so that developers, contractors, and investors can plan with confidence.
Can you tell us an interesting fact about your organisation?
Fun fact about MYC Group: we have a dedicated budget for trying out new “toys”—and we take it very seriously! If you visit our factory, don’t be surprised to find a group of fully grown adults enthusiastically testing out the latest equipment, materials, or construction gadgets like kids on Christmas morning. Not everything makes it into production, but the process is always exciting, sometimes hilarious, and occasionally leads to game-changing innovations.
